Common questions about working with a travel agent
If you’ve never worked with an agent before — or you’re not sure it’s worth it — here are some honest answers.
“I can book everything myself online.”
You absolutely can — and for some trips, that makes perfect sense. But there’s a difference between booking a trip and planning one well. Jake has traveled to every continent, cruised everything from mainstream lines to ultra-luxury sailings (including an expedition around Antarctica), and flown with carriers across every major airline alliance. That kind of firsthand experience means we know which cabin is actually worth the upgrade, which resort lives up to the photos, and which connection will leave you sprinting through the terminal. We also have access to rates, perks, and inventory that aren’t always available through public booking sites. See what we handle →
“Do travel agents charge fees?”
We don’t charge for consultations, and in most cases our service costs you nothing. Travel agents earn commissions from the suppliers we book with — cruise lines, hotels, airlines — so the price you pay is typically the same (or better) than booking direct. If a booking does involve a service fee, we’ll always tell you upfront before you commit to anything.
“My trips aren’t fancy enough to need an agent.”
We plan all kinds of trips — not just luxury vacations. A family beach week, a couples’ getaway, a kid-free resort escape, flights to visit relatives — they all benefit from someone who knows how to find the best value and handle the logistics. Jake has personally planned and experienced everything from family-friendly all-inclusives to romantic adults-only retreats to solo adventures, so wherever you fall on the spectrum, we get it. There’s no minimum budget and no trip too simple.
“I don’t want to be locked into something.”
You’re not. Reaching out to us is just a conversation. We’ll give you recommendations, and you decide if you want to move forward. No deposits required to talk, no pressure, and no hard sells. If you decide to book on your own, no hard feelings.
“Do I need travel insurance?”
We strongly recommend it for every trip. A good travel insurance policy covers things like trip cancellation, medical emergencies abroad, flight disruptions, and lost luggage — and it’s often far more affordable than people expect. We’ll help you find the right plan and make sure you understand exactly what’s covered.
“I’ve already booked my trip. Is it too late?”
Not necessarily. If you booked directly with a cruise line, hotel, or resort and haven’t yet made your final payment, you can usually transfer that booking to us at no extra cost. Once it’s transferred, we’ll take over — monitoring for better pricing, handling special requests, and being your point of contact before and during your trip. It’s a simple process, and there’s no downside. Get in touch and we’ll let you know if your booking is eligible. How booking transfers work →
